A Very Cold Spring, Bardo Zimna Wiosna
Bardzo zimna wiosna by Katarzyna Tubylewicz Wydawnictwo/Poland 2020

Present-day Stockholm. One Sunday, an accidental shopper comes across an abandoned volvo parked outside a supermarket. Inside the car, the shopper finds an old lady’s body – with her mouth stuffed with crumpled newspapers. Who would want Greta Sjöwall’s – a lady in her eighties,  a wealthy, respected and devoted to charity work woman – death? Inspectors Jens Vikander and Björn Fågel from Nacka Strand police department are investigating a few leads and the most promising one seems to pertain young refugees from Afghanistan who were often guests at Greta’s house. It turns out, however, that Ewa, a Polish woman who had just recently started looking after Ms. Sjöwall, may also have her secrets.

An escalating crisis ailing the Swedish police force certainly does not help solve the case and it quickly turns out that Greta’s murder is only the beginning of a series of similar crimes… and that in modern, multi-cultural Stockholm, the echoes of the long-gone past won’t let anyone forget about them.

Katarzyna Tubylewicz – a writer, publicist, cultural expert and translator of Swedish literature into Polish - four novels by Majgull Axelsson, “Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar”, Jonas Gardell’s trilogy about AIDS in Sweden and Niklas Orrenius’ “Shootings in Copenhagen”  - for which Tubylewicz was nominated for a prestigous Ryszard Kapuściński Award - are among the examples of her translation works. Very Cold Spring (W.A.B. publishing house, 2020) is her crime story debut novel and the first part of the planned series.
