Thirty years ago, it was a flop. Now it’s clearly the blueprint for Cage’s career of wild and absurd performances. From dead bodies to mechanical bats, this is the inside story of a bizarre cult classic.

Schonfeld is a free lance journalist and was formerly a Sr. Writer for Newsweek covering culture, media and entertainment. He has written for and continues to write for The Atlantic, Pitchfork, The AV Club, New York Magazine, The Nation, The Columbia Journalism Reviews, and many others.  He is currently writing a 33 1/3 book for Bloomsbury.
